# PIN Protected Surveys

> Enhance the security and exclusivity of your surveys by requiring respondents to enter a secure 4 digit PIN to access your survey. Learn how to enable PIN protection and the benefits it offers.

A PIN keeps a link survey from being answered by anyone who happens to have the URL. The link still works; without the four digits it goes no further than a prompt.

## Enabling PIN protection

Open the survey editor, go to the **Settings** tab, and expand **Response Options**. Switch on **Protect survey with a PIN** and type the four digits respondents will need.

The PIN can be changed at any time from the same place. Changing it locks out anyone still holding the old one.

## What the respondent sees

Opening the link shows the prompt instead of the first question.

A wrong PIN is rejected and can be retried; the right one opens the survey as usual.

## When to use it

* Confidential surveys — internal company feedback, or research where the questions themselves are sensitive.

* Surveys for one event or one group, where you can hand the PIN out in the room.

* Surveys where the link is likely to be forwarded and you would rather it went no further.
